Garret (Gerritt) Van Brocklin

There is a photo taken at Lodi, Wisconsin at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.(city cemetery).
The front of the stone where The G.A.R. marker is: Isaiah Van Brocklin 1830-1913 plus his civil war record and Elizabeth, wife of Isaiah 1828-1872.
Isaiah is the son of Garret.
On the opposite side of Garret (1799 - 1869 is Esther Boyd 1796-1865 (Elizabeth's Mother).


Garrett and Anna lived at Manitowoc, Wisconsin. Garrett died June 25, 1869 in Okee Wisconsin-- aget 70 years, 12 days. Anne Mercer Van Brocklin died Nov 9, 1890--age 62 years. Apparently shortly after Garrett and Anne were married, they removed from Orleans Co. N.Y., to Charlotteville Upper Canada (then se called) where several of their children were born--later he moved to Ancaster, Upper Canada, where his fourth child was born in 1837. His sixth child was born at Brandford, Upper Canada in 1843 and the 7th and youngest child was born at Norwich, Canada in 1845. We have no record of Garrett and Anne's place of abode between 1845 and 18 0 at which time we find him enlisted in the U.S. Federal Census in Manitowoc, Manitowoc County Wisconsin, whcih also reveals that Anne Mercer was a native of New York State. Before 1870, he had taken up residence in Sauk County, Wisconsin. It is believed that Anne had removed to Highland Park, Lake Co., Illinois for a while after the death of Garrett and later, with her daughter, Roxiliana (Van Brocklin) Ellerton, homesteaded at Vang, North Dakota, Pembina County, Dakota Territory (now Cavalier County) as it was listed as her post-office address on a pension record in 1874. (Pension Cert. #173492) This pension record file also gives us a bit of information which shows that Garrett's widow Anne Mercer Van Brocklin was last paid on Oct 4, 1892 and has been dropped because of death....so the date of her death in the first part of this paper is in error.

Garret married Anne Mercer Van Brocklin on 16 Mar 1828 in Township Of Yates, Co Of Orleans, State Of New York. (Anne Mercer Van Brocklin was born on 3 Nov 1811 in Johnston, NY, County Of Fulton and died on 9 Nov 1890.)
