The following information was taken brom the Ellis Island Records for Anton and Katherine Brezina Malek. Anton Malek left 24 September 1898 from Bremen on the ship Barbarossa with his bride Katherine arriving at Ellis Island, New York 6 October 1898. According to the manifest their final destination was Atkinson, Nebraska joining John and Maria Protivinsky. When they came to New York they had $20.00 between the two of them, and they paid for their own ticket. Their last residence was in Pavolice, Moravia.
Note: Katherine Brezina Malek is a niece to Maria Nezveda Protivinsky.

Obituary of Katherine Brezina Malek:
Funeral services for Mrs. Anton C. Malek, well known pioneer mother of the county, were conducted Saturday morning at 11 o'clock in Sacred Heart Church with the Rev. W. J. Connaughton officiating. Burial was made in Graceland Cemetery.
Katherine Brezina was born in Pavlice, Czechoslovakia on May 19, 1879. When a young girl she went to Vienna, Austria where she grew to womanhood. On Aug 23, 1898 she was united in marriage to Anton Malek and following their marriage they left for Ammerica settling on a homestead six miles east of Naper, NE. k In 1901, they moved to Alberta, Canada and later to British Columia where they resided for 2 years, returning to Fairfax, SD. In 1905 after opening of Gregory County, they moved to a farm 2 miles north of Gregory where they resided 2 years, then moved to Gregory where they established a clothing store.
In 1910 they left for Europe and shortly before the outbreak of the Worl War, her husband returned to the United States to locate a new home. She and the family were to follow soon but because of the war were forced to remain for the duration. In 1920 her husband returned to Europe for his family and they settled 7 miles southwest of Burke where she resided until her passing. She had reached the age of 63 years, 3 months and 22 days. She was the mother of four children, Felix of Burke, Emily Zidko and Otilie Zidko, both of Spencer, NE and Rudolph who preceded her in death in 1923.
Besides the grief stricken widower and children, she is survived by two brothers Rudolph Brezina of Colome, SD and Joseph Brezina of Czechoslovakia; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph Cerny of Burke, Mrs. Thomas Fisher and Mrs. Joseph Jiskra both of Czechoslovakia; and two grandchildren, a number of other relatives and a host of sorrowing friends.
Pall bearers were Joe Chocholousek, Joe Chuchvalec, Joseph Kubat, Knute Kallander, James Klufa and J.A. Liebel.
Katerina (Katherine) married Anton Cyril Malek on 23 August 1898 in Austria. Anton Cyril (parents Jacob Malek and Katherine Zednik) was born 9 August 1875 in Czechoslovakia. He died 4 Jan 1949 in Burke.
