Obituary for Felix Malek:
Funeral services for Felix Robert Malek were held Monday, April 4, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church, Burke with Fr. P.J. O'Connor officiating.
Music was provided and Dean and Kelly Frank and Mary Frank accompanist.
Casket bearers were Stanley Cabelka, Don Kirkpatrick, Louie Matucha, Jr., John Smutny, Dennis Kenzy, and Frank Zidko, Jr. Honorary casket bearers were all his friends. Interment was at Graceland Cemetery, Burke, SD.
Felix Robert Malek was born Sept 11, 1899 to Anton C. and Katherine Malek at Naper, NE and died March 31, 1983 at the Lake Andes Health Care Center, Lake Andes, SD.
At the age of three, Felix moved with his parents to Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada and later they returned to aper, NE. From Naper they moved to Gregory where he attended school. In 1907 he accompanied his parents to Czechoslovakia. During this time World War I began and the family was stranded there. Felix finished his education in Brno, Czechoslovakia, and when the war ended he returned with his parents to Burke and later to the farm southwest of Burke. During the depression he worked in the Medinah Club in Chicago, Ill. In 1932 he returned to his parent's farm. On April 25, 1938, he was united in marriage to Rosie Smutny at Burke. The couple lived on a farm southwest of Burke. To this union one daughter, Katherine was born. Felix was member of the Z.C.B.J. and 100F Lodges.
Felix and Rosie lived on the farm southwest of Burke until 1975, when they moved to Gregory where they lived until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Rudolph.
Survivors included his wife, Rosie, one daughter Katherine Leask, son-in-law Don Leask, one grandson David Leask of LaMirada, CA; two sisters, Emily Zidko and Tillie Zidko of Spencer, NE; one niece, Joan Kenzy; six nephews, John, George, Bob, Joe Smutny and Frank and Dr. Charles Zidko, and other relatives and friends.

Felix married Rose (Rosie) Mae Smutny Malek, daughter of John Smutny and Anna Libersky Smutny, on 25 Apr 1938 in Burke, SD. (Rose (Rosie) Mae Smutny Malek was born on 7 May 1907 in Brainard, NE and died on 17 Nov 1987 in Yankton, SD.)
