Obituary of Otilie (Tillie) Malek:
Funeral services for Tillie K. Zidko were held Dec 21, 2002 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spender, NE. Rev. Frank Jindra officiated. Music was provided by Sue Connot, organist and the church choir.
Pallbearers were Tom Mimick, Mike Murphy, Lawrence Sedlacek, Leo Johnson, Carl Ruda and Gary Chvala. Intermet was in the National Cemetery in Spencer, NE.
Tillie Katherine Zidko was born in Moravia, Czechoslovakia on July 20, 1911 and passed away Dec 18, 2002 at the Alpine Village Center in Verdigre, NE where she resided the past five years.
Her parents were Katherine (Brezina) Malek and Anton C. Malek. Tillie was born during the time her parents were visiting relatives in Europe during World War I. She returned with her parents to a farm near Gregory, where they lived until graduating from Gregory High School in 1930.
She attended Southern State Teachers College at Springfield. After graduation she taught for a number of years in Gregory County. On Oct 16, 1940, she was united in marriage to Frank Zidko at Spencer, NE. They lived on that farm until their retirement in 1972, when they moved to Spencer, NE.
Tillie's main interest was her home and family. In earlier life she enjoyed traveling and taking part in home talent plays. Tillie was an active member in the Spencer Women's Club and the Spencer Band Boosters.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank in 1987, by her parents, two brothers and one niece.
Survivors include one son, Frank and his wife, Connie of Spencer, NE, step-grandchildren, Amy, Tom, Lisa, and Jeffrey, several nieces, one nephew, Dr. Charles Zidko and wife Donna Zidko and other relatives.
Her husband Frank Zidko was born 4 November 1903 and died 4 January 1987.
