Robert W. Brezina,86, Rapid City, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. Born on April 26, 1918 to Rudolph and Natalie (Kahler) Brezina, on the family farm 13 miles south of Colome, SD, he graduated from Dallas High School in 1934 where he was active in sports. Bob graduated from the University of Wymoing in 1939.
He married Bobbie Blanton on Jan 27, 1942. They made their home in Rapid City. He served with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a captain in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. He returned to Rapid City and worked for Buckingham Transportation. In 1947 he founded Brezina Construction Co. Inc. Company projacts included the Bowman-Haley Dam in North Dakota; the Clock and Belle Tower at UC Riverside campus in Pomona, CA; the Kennedy Bridge in Niamey, Niger; the U.S. Embassy in Mali and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Cathedral in Rapid City. Bob's entrepreneurial spirit led him into many other business pursuits, some more successful than others! His greatest pleasures were family, flying and U. of Wyoming football. Our greatest pleasure was his generous spirit and keen sense of humor. He is survived by five daughters, Sandy (Gene) Goodstat, Denver, CO., Marilyn (Chris) Schmid, Diane Whalen and Susan England all of Rapid City; Barbara (Steven) Selgestad, Austin, TX; one sister, Delila (Ray) Myers, Rapid City, 15 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Paul; one brother, William; his sisters, Elsie Okoniewski and Emma Melchi; his grandson, Luke England, and Bobbie Brezina.
