John William Olsen
A man with a big personality and quick wit, John was born in Norfolk, NE to Harvey and Margaret (Peggy) Olsen. His family moved to Bend, OR., in January 1938. He attended St. Francis Catholic School, Bend High School and Jr. College.
Starting in 1965, John spent four years in the US Air Force. He went to University of Oregon and graduated with a degree in Music. He later attended The Church Divinity School of the Pacific in Berkeley, CA and graduated with a Masters degree in Theology.
John married Mary Jo Heidel in 1980. Together they owned and operated three Phagans Beauty Schools. John served four years on the National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts and Sciences of Cosmetology in Arlington, VA. He was President of the Oregon Barber and Beauty Schools Association. He also served on the Tigard Planning Commission for two years. In November 2000, Mary Jo passed away. John became a Royal Rosarian in 1990, marching in many Rose Festival Parades playing the drums. He could plaly the accordion, piano and bag pipes.
In 2005 John married Florence Frank and gained an extended family. He was the boisterous entertainer, and she was the gracious hostess for many gatherings of Rosarians and family members.
John was a member of The Episcopalk Parish of St. John the Baptist in Portland, OR. Unfortunately, John has been in an Alzheimer's Care Center since August 2015. John was preceded in death by his Mother and Father; first wife, Mary Jo and brothers David and Richard. He is survived by his wife Florence, brother Bill (Dorothy); sister, Karen Rich; four stepchildren; and seeral nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday June 24, 2023 at the St. Frances of Assissi Church, 8818 SW Miley Road, Wilsonille, OR.
