David Paul Olsen

  General Notes:

David (Dave) Paul Olsen was born October 14, 1955 at St. Charles Hospital in Bend to Harvey and Peggy (Van Brocklin) Olsen. Dave was the youngest of his four siblings: John,
Rich, Bill and Karen. He attended St. Francis, Cascade Junior High and graduated from Bend Senior High School. Dave attended the University of Oregon in 1976, where he played rugby for the Ducks. Dave completed his bachelor's degree in landscape architecture in 1981 and began his career shortly after. Dave married his wife, Ilene Manny on September 20, 1980.
Dave was a very talented and gifted landscape architect, artisan and craftsman. He was very gifted in seeing nature's beauty in simplicity and clean lines, whcih allowed him to become well known for his work throughout Oregon and Washington and in several cities on the east coast, including Washington, DC. As a professional Dave served on the Oregon State Board of Landscape Architure, as he felt it was important to give back to his profession and the community. He served on several other local committees.
Dave was an active and selfless parent to his daughters' lives: Jennifer (31), Elizabeth (29) and Madeline (24). As each of them grew up, Dave coached several soccer teams, drove back and forth to countless swim meets and always volunteered to help set up and tear down school and sporting events.
Throughout their lives, Dave taught his daughters to follow their instincts, to always be kind, and that paying it forward makes the world a nicer place. Dave proved this to them in his final wish of being an organ donor, which allows his love and generosity to live on in helping countless other people in research and leading better lives.
Dave is survived by his wife of nearly 36 years, Ilene, his daughters, and a son-in-law. Additionally, Dave is survived by his four siblinhgs, three brothers and a sister, as well as several nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
Dave's life ended unexpectedly at the age of 60. There will be a celebration of his life on Saturday, September 3, at the Olsen's home. The event will begin at 4:00 pm, during the second half of the Duck game--Oregon gear is encouraged in honor of our favorite Duck. Dave always hated sad services and memorials, so this will be a tailgate full of hugs, cheers and happy memories.
