John and Mary Berka Pistulka had a son Anton two months before they immigrated to America. The family of three came with John's parents Frantisek and Katerina Pistulka.
John and Mary had four children born in Iowa, before moving to Minnesota in 1882 along with his younger brother Joseph and his family. They stayed in Minnesota for about two years, before moving to the Dakota Territory. They settled in Brule County near Kimball. In 1891 the families moved to Fairfax Precinct. The territory was opened for homesteading and they staked out their claims. John and Mary had four more children by this time and in April of 1894 would have their ninth and finial child, George Pistulka.
John married Mary Berka Pistulka in 1872. (Mary Berka Pistulka died on 18 Dec 1916.)
