Soukup was original spelling then one of the homesteaders changed it to Sukup.
Maria is buried at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery-Verdigre, Nebr.
Inscription on tombstone of Maria Sukup "Sleep on Mother, Thy Work is Done;
Jesus has come and borne thee home."
Maria also filed a claim located on the middle branch of Verdigre Creek, Section 27, Jefferson Township.
Son Wenzel inherited Maria's homestead at her death, but, as he already had a farm, he deeded the land to his son Frank who sold it to his nephew, Leonard M. Sukup in 1945.
Maria, (Mother of Andrew and Wenzel) and daughters came to US on June 26, 1871 arriving in Baltimore, MD. Andrew and Wenzel came to America first.
Andrew was born in 1953 so Andrew is younger than Wenzel by 22 years.
Maria married Georg Soukup, son of Johann Soukup and Anna Lehanka Soukup. (Georg Soukup was born on 7 Dec 1805 in Hoslau N.2, Bohemia and was buried in Bohemia.)
