bullet  General Notes:

Obituary of William Hempstead.
The death of Mr. Wm. Hempstead of Minneapolis Saturday will bring to many hearts a deep sorrow and the family have the sincere sympathy of all friends. Mr. Hempstead was taken severly last week, but for the last few days his friends here had hopes of recovery, but it was ordered otherwise. Mr. Hempstead will be remembered by many as a man worthy of the confidence and esteem of all who knew him, generous, manly, intelligent and in every way worthy.
He was the son of the late Charles S. Hempstead, Esq., so long identified with the interests of Galena, and a most estimable and prominent citizen. His ancestry dates back to the early settlement of Connecticut in the year 1645 and with a record prominent and honorable. Mr. Wm. Hempstead was born in this city in 1835 and resided here for the most part until 1881, when he removed to Minneapolis. The loss of a good and true man is one that all who knew him will appreciate.
Mr. Hempstead was married at Freeport, ILL., December 10, 1862 to Jennie, daughter of Mr. John A. Clark. He leaves a widow and three children, William, Clark and Hugh. Two have died...John Clark Hempstead and Jennie Hempstead the only daughter.
The mortal remains of William Hempstead, for many years one of Galena's prominent and honored citizens were Tuesday afternoon consigned to rest in Greenwood. The relatives arrived with the remains from Minneapolis over the Burlington at 4:40 o'clock. The cortege formed immediately at the Burlington station and proceeded to Greenwood where a brief committal service was held according to the Protestant Episopal ritual. Rev. S. J. Yundt, rector of Grace church officiated.
The pall-bearers were Messrs. S. O. Stillman, David Sheean, C.S. Merrick, J.B. Young, John E. Corwith and Walter Ford.
