Funeral services for Emily C. Zidko, 82, Spencer, NE were held at 10:30 a.m. on July 8, 1985 at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Spencer, NE with Rev. Al Sieck and the Rev. Theodore Richling officiating. Interment was in the National Cemetery of Spencer, NE.
Emily Cecilia Zidko, daughter of Anton C. and Katherine (Brezina) Malek, was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada December 18, 1902. In 1906, the family moved to Naper, NE and shortly thereafter to Gregory, SD where she attended elementary school. Shortly before the outbreak of World War I, the Malek's visited their native Czechoslovakia. Because of the war, the family was stranded for several years. Emily completed high school and business college there, and was employed as a secretary for two years. In 1920, they returned to the US and settled on a farm southwest of Burke, SD. She worked for three years in the Burke area, then was employed in Omaha, Chicago and Miami until 1935. On May 1, 1935, she was united in marriage to Charles Zidko at Burke and moved to a farm southwest of Spencer where they lived until their retirement in 1966. Emily's major interest was he home and her family. She spent many hours of every week in her son's home, visiting and doing things with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling and made several trips with them in recent years. Survivors include one son, Dr. C. N. Zidko; two grandchildren, Paula and David; one sister, Mrs. Frank Zidko; one brother-in-law Frank Zidko, a sister-in-law, Mrs. Bessie Panacek, all from Spencer; a sister-in-law, Mrs. Felix Malek, Gregroy, SD and several nieces and nephews. Her husband, her parents and two brothers preceded her in death.

Emily married Charles Zidko on 1 May 1935. (Charles Zidko was born on 22 Sep 1898 and died on 23 Jun 1982.)
